Rubelli presents Ai Weiwei: About Silk at Milan Design Week
May 8, 2026
Rubelli extends its sincere thanks for the opportunity to present Ai Weiwei: About Silk during Milan Design Week, and for the warm reception received from all visitors who experienced the installation at the showroom in Via Fatebenefratelli 9.
This year’s Fuorisalone welcomed an extraordinary flow of guests, transforming the space into a vibrant environment of encounters, conversations, and shared reflection. The active engagement with the installation—careful observation, moments of pause, and open dialogue—made the project particularly meaningful.
Within this collaboration, silk becomes a powerful medium for reflection and critical dialogue. Through a dense visual language rich in symbolism—from surveillance cameras and handcuffs to the Twitter bird and the iconic alpaca—Ai Weiwei addresses themes such as control, censorship, and freedom of expression. Drawing from his personal experience, the artist expands the reflection toward broader questions of power and individual rights.
Rubelli is grateful for the attention and participation shown throughout the event and looks forward to continuing this dialogue in future occasions.
For those who were unable to visit or wish to revisit the experience, the installation remains open until 15 May. Visitors are warmly welcome.
